Keeping Up with Change

Ever notice that there is so much that shifts in the industry and sometimes it moves faster every couple of years? Sometimes, doesn't it seem that change sneaks up on you? If you are feeling the pressure of shifting sands in your career, there are some things you can focus on to help guide you along the way. MORE

Manage Change in the Workplace

As in life, change in the workplace can be something that is very hard to deal with. However, if you anticipate change, adapt quickly and embrace it, then changes in the workplace can actually be positive and can propel you toward success in business, as well as in life. MORE ADDITIONAL TIPS

Valerie Freeman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Although the job market this year is "less bad" than last, there's still too many highly talented individuals who are still looking for work. I know since I spend a lot of my time working with these folks. The civic, professional and networking groups I attend are all full of people who are in "transition." They have been told over and over about the value of networking and they are taking it to heart. I hope they will come out of this recession with a new respect for keeping up with and continuing to enlarge their circle of contacts. The networking group I started last year for C-level women executives (C-Suite) is still going strong – the great news is that they are getting more interviews and landing more jobs. Networking is the name of their game and they are getting really good at it. One of the success stories at C-Suite is Chris Bradshaw who landed at a company which has developed an interesting software product called Plumlife – she's even offering our readers a free trial so check out her story and product below.

This recession has caused a lifetime of change in what seems like no time at all. We all have to constantly adapt to the ebb and flow of economic conditions, technological innovations, business reorganizations and keep our attitudes positively adjusted all the while. I hope some of the information in the articles included in this newsletter will help you think about change and how to manage it for yourself and your employees.

Chris Bradshaw, C-Suite Member Lands a New Plum Role

Chris Bradshaw, a Charter Member of C-Suite, a networking group started by Valerie Freeman for C-level women in transition, lands a Plum Role as the COO at PlumLife. It was her involvement with C-Suite where she realized that networking and keeping up with the changing times has led her to her new found role. "C-Suite is an amazing group of professionals, a supportive environment and a tremendous way to start finding a local network of powerful, connected women" says Bradshaw.

Networking and connections are always listed as one of the top ways to find that next job – and that was definitely true for Chris. She found a dream job when former colleagues suggested her to a woman in the midst of building a software startup business. That business was PlumLife, LP (www.plumlife.com). PlumLife recently launched a detail management calendar. It is an amazing tool for anyone looking to control all the little details of life outside of work. PlumLife's motto is "Conquer the Details". Little details such as booking a sitter, arranging carpool or even simple reminders to buy a birthday present are the ones that tend to get dropped or forgotten, and those are the ones that can ruin a wonderful day. PlumLife is here to help you "Conquer the Details". It is accessible on your laptop, smartphone, iPhone, blackberry, Droid or iPad, with no synching required. It's a far cry from the FiloFax and Franklin Planners we used to carry around so dutifully. Change – whether to a new job, or a new way of doing things (from paper to software), it's guaranteed to happen.
