IZOD car driver Katherine Legge appeared at the annual meeting of Girl Scout leadership. Legge honored the organization during the 96th Indy 500 by wearing the Girl Scout logo on her helmet. I am all about scouting – Boy ScoutsGirl Scouts.  They are fabulous organizations that teach values, citizenship, confidence and leadership.  My experience as a Girl Scout taught me many valuable lessons, and now I am chairing the Board of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, one of 112 councils throughout the United States, and one of the largest,  which encompasses 31 counties, 35,000 girls and 16,000 adults.  Much has changed about Girl Scouting since the founding 100 years ago – now Girl Scouts is the nation’s premiere leadership organization for girls – building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

Recently I attended the National Corporate Leadership Meeting in Washington, DC where Board Chairs and Council CEO’s were introduced  to the biggest campaign in Girl Scout history – ToGetHerThere.  ToGetHerThere was launched with a twofold challenge to the nation:  to remove the barriers that inhibit girls from reaching their full potential, and in a single generation make these same girls, as women, full partners in leadership in every sector of our society.

Part of this launch will take place at the great State Fair of Texas where the signature exhibit at the Hall of State will be the Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary and History.  We are beyond excited about this exhibit and its potential for showing off all of the programs the Girl Scouts has to offer.  The producer of our exhibit is Corporate Magic, and they  will be building and staging a magnificent high tech, interactive exhibit along with our major sponsor, AT&T which will also bring innovative, exciting technologies to the exhibit.  It’s really not to be missed!

The grand opening gala will take place the Saturday before the fair opens to give supporters a first look at the exhibit and of course, to taste the amazing deep-fried Samoa, which was deemed the best of all the Girl Scout cookies to fry.  I can’t wait.

For anyone interested in attending the grand opening gala, please contact Jennifer Bartkowski at jbartkowski@gsnetx.org,  for information on table and ticket sales.
